I’m stressed out, I’m pissed off and I’m eating McDonald’s AND drinking a coke – for the second time this week mind you! Our house is supposed to close on the 28 th . I’m not really sure what my problem is, exactly. The house is closing, it has all gone as smoothly as anything could possibly have gone, we have the money we need for closing, and yet…I could just scream. I’m like an angry cat that sees a dog. Someone can walk by my desk and say “good morning” and my back is arched and...

There have been several posts now that deal with what should and shouldn't be posted on JoeUser. Some believe that this site should be exclusively for political articles, some think the site owners should not post articles that contain personal thoughts, and some think that JoeUser and WinCustomize shouldn't be linked.   JoeUser is a blog site. Blogging is defined by Google thusly: "A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is "bl...

This week has been one of stress for me. I started teaching, but they contacted me so late (I got the job at 6pm on the day before class started) that I have nothing prepared so each week is going to be a constant battle to get ready for the next class, trying to stay one step ahead of the students instead of 10 steps. Other things are going on too, but they need not be discussed here. In all that, I've almost forgotten. Oh yes, we're building a house. Ah! It's much less stressful tha...

When you start up your computer it is known as "booting". Contrary to popular belief, it should have nothing to do with any physical kicking of the computer. No matter how angry you are you must learn to control your computer rage - but that is the topic of a different article.   The standard Boot Screen usually looks something like this (I'm running XP. Actual Boot screens may vary. Objects on desktop are closer than they appear):     BootSkin is one of the eas...

When I was a child my two brothers and my sister and I would fight over toys. And over the television. And over the last potato chip. And over who was looking at whom and with what level of animosity. In short, we fought over everything. We fought over who was sitting in whose area of the car seat or the couch to such an extent that it would turn physical, and we would press our butts together so hard that if I had had a piece of coal in my back pocket a shining diamond would later have falle...

Hmm. I don't even know what just happened. Over the holidays I was wandering around the internet and found a local community college that was hiring a screenwriting instructor. I applied, knowing it was ridiculously late for this semester but what the heck? I also sent an e-mail to the chair of the department because that seems to usually work out better than just applying in the regular way. They called me on my cell phone today to say that their current screenwriting teacher won't b...

Today, class, we are going to talk about changing your Icons.   You know on your desktop there is a little thing that looks like a trash can, and you use it to delete files you don’t want, and sometimes files you later realize you needed quite badly? That trash can is a graphic representation  - or icon - of the program that deletes your files. Your “My Documents” folder is an icon. When you click on to open the Word program , you are clicking on an icon. Some icons ...

LeapingLizard gave us all a link to this quiz on religious beliefs. It's pretty interesting, actually. Here are my results. 1.     Unitarian Universalism (100%) 2.     Secular Humanism (86%) 3.     Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (78%) 4.     Nontheist (76%) 5.     Libera...

Similar to the days of ancient Rome when the main sport was watching lions eat Christians, WinCustomize has it's own bloody coliseum called " Screenshots ". This is a brutal and diabolical gallery where users fight to the death to attain the coveted status of premier skinner, and the losers are thrown to the dogs like yesterdays garbage. Surviving the gladiatorial sporting-ground of screenshots is the realm of only a handful of ultra talented warrior-artists, and even posting a screenshot re...

Sometimes I just have to take a break from reality. Or whatever I'm doing that passes for reality at the time. If life were a musical what would your theme song be? Mine is: People are Strange by the Doors

Yesterday's article was a long, pedantic drone about installing the WindowBlinds program and downloading and installing skins for your computer. Today's article is about reverting to the original Windows skin, although why anyone would want to violate their computer in this way is beyond me. Now that I've been playing dress up with my computer for all of two weeks, the standard Windows style is tantamount to leaving my computer naked in a snowstorm, but hey, sometimes it has to be done...
