My home is not a place, it is people.
And can the doctor cure it?

About Podcasting in General

Some of you know I host and produce a podcast called “PowerUser.tv” sponsored by Neowin.net, WinCustomize.com and QuarterToThree.com. I have come to realize that there are still many people who do not understand podcasting in general, and in order to help out some of our would-be listeners I wanted to put together this very brief article about this new entertainment media. I’m planning on more of these in the future…we’ll see.

“Podcasting” is poorly named. Many people think you have to have an iPod in order to listen to a podcast. This is simply not true. An iPod is awfully nice (for many reasons, not just podcasting) and you certainly can use it to listen to a podcast, but there are other ways.

When we set up our podcast, we went out and tried to get it registered in a lot of different places, including iTunes and Yahoo Podcasts. If you go to our home page (www.poweruser.tv) you can easily register by simply clicking on the links under “Subscribe Now” on the right side of the page (about half-way down).

Let’s say you have iTunes. Many people do, and it’s free for you to download if you don’t already have it. If you have clicked on the iTunes subscribe button on our home-page then whenever you open iTunes it will automatically check for new episodes of the show. Once they are downloaded you can listen to the show right through iTunes on your computer, or you can sync it with your mp3 player – any mp3 player, not just an iPod. You can also burn the show to a disc and listen in your car or another CD player in the house.

If you don’t like the iTunes option, you can always just go to our website and click on the “Listen now” links and listen to each show or show segment you are interested in.

Odeo and Podnova are other places you can go to get the show. Check them out for specifics about how to do this.

About PowerUser.tv

Our show covers topics of interest to computer powerusers – i.e., people who know stuff about computers and want to keep up with the news. We cover everything from what the big guys are doing (Microsoft, Google and many others) to what the government is doing (taking away our rights, usually) to news about the Internet, software, hardware and more. We provide game news through Tom Chick and occasionally we step outside of our purview and cover news ranging from astronomy, television and movies, cars and more.

We try and keep it light an entertaining and we hope you laugh with us (and occasionally at us). Come check us out even if you aren’t a “poweruser”. Chances are, there’s something here for everyone. If the regular show is too long, you can come to our site and download individual segments for easier listening.

Cordelia: Good article. I didn't really 'get' the whole podcasting thing, but went ahead and subscribed to PowerUser.tv and really enjoyed the most recent one. I will be listening in the future.

ha, a recent article covers this topic or at least for how many people are aware of Podcasting:

I also like to point those asking about Podcasting to this online wiki information site:
