No computer...what will I do? Fighting down a sense of rising panic...
No Internet connection or telelvision at home - f*** you Charter - for over 2 weeks. And now work computer is hosed, at least temporarily. It seems to me that the world is trying to tell me something.
Isn't it amazing, (or perhaps a better word is pathetic) how much of our lives revolve around technology?
During the fall of 2003 I was living close to San Bernardino, California (so don't mess with me, I'm from the 'hood) and there were several very large forest fires. Link You might have heard of them. Burned over 300,000 acres in my area alone. We were all evacuated from our homes, and all I took with me was my dogs and the computers. The only two important things. It seems I felt that all else could be replaced. Others took boatloads of stuff with them, and some refused to leave - as if staying would stop the fire.
It's at times like that when you look around yourself and say "look at all the crap I can live without".
and yet here I am. No TV no Internet makes Cordelia...something something.
I wondered around for about an hour this morning waiting to hear if I would get my computer back, until I finally came up with something I could do without the Internet and a word processing program.
Now getting any real work done is an issue. I don't have my documents, I don't have my e-mail addresses, I don't have my passwords, and I don't have MS Office installed, or any graphics software like Photoshop. In other words, I might as well just be using pen and paper, which I have been doing this morning. I had almost forgotten how to use these ancient tools. But use them I am, and getting work done even...except for taking time out to write this.
So, thought I'd blog about it, 'cause I can do that at least. Can't spell check it though - sorry in advance for any errors.
But my sister is coming to visit and I have 5 days off ahead of me, so I'll stop complaining now, get the work done that I can and try not to think about it again until I come back on Wednesday.
Have a lovely Easter holiday, all.
