My home is not a place, it is people.

I am going to write this blog about my trip to Cancun this Thanksgiving. Please forgive me, as it seems that I left any writing skills I may have had in Cancun, and now this blog sounds like a third grade paper entitled "What I Did With My Thanksgiving Vacation". I am mortified, and yet I persevere.

This Thanksgiving my better half and I went to Cancun with my sister and brother-in-law. I have never actually been out of the country before, except a brief trip across the border into Canada. In fact, I have never taken a trip of this magnitude before, so it was all new to me.

The pictures I am posting were taken by my brother-in-law. My sister and bro-in-law are avid SCUBA divers and have the cool underwater casing for their camera. I actually opted out of the SCUBA diving excursion as I am a giant pussy, but that's another story for another blog.

Here is the view from the hotel:

Sea life. See it???

Chichen Itza! This was, far and away, the coolest thing I have ever done. I've wanted to see this place since I was first introduced to it in 6th grade. When I got there I figured we'd be looking at the pyramid and the sports arena and maybe one or two other structures. Not so! The place is enormous. When the Mayans built a city they weren't fooling around. They still let you climb the pyramid, too, which I think is a terrible thing. Think of the erosion all of us are causing! Of course, that didn't stop me from climbing...

The pyramid

An ancient sports arena. The winners had the privilege of being sacrificed!

This is the observatory. Looks remarkably like modern day observatories (except for the crumbling).

View from the top of the pyramid. It's much steeper than it looks.

Another view from the top...

This is right before I pushed these two people off. I don't know who they are. Total strangers. They asked me to take their picture and I kept the camera.

I must say, the pictures don't do it justice. It was a great trip.

I guess that's all from bad writing land. Hopefully the pictures made up for some of it.

hehe, the sand goes right up to the pool, that has to be a pain to keep clean. It's steeper then it looks? It looks pretty steep as it is. And I think your writing is fine

Thanks for the kind words Danny!

The pool is an "infinity pool", which means it just looks like the beach and the sand collide. There is actually about 10 feet between pool and beach! A lot of people pose on the "infinite" edge of the pool for pictures since it looks like they are walking on water. I declined that pose, since I look like a sausage in a bathing suit. Don't get me wrong, I'm a really cute sausage...

Wow, it's so beautiful there! About the SCUBA thing, I agree. Never go anywhere where you become part or at the bottom of the food chain - it's just not wise. Take Care.
